“I use graphics extensively in my research and papers
on cellular automata. As opposed to many of those involved in the recent discussions,
however, my pictures are almost exclusively based on bitmaps (some huge) rather than
vector graphics or line drawings. My program of choice is Paint Shop Pro version 4.14 from
Jasc (www.jasc.com), which at $69 direct from Jasc, is one of the best software values
around. The program compares favorably to Photoshop at a fraction of the cost, with
excellent tools for bitmap editing, conversion and special effects. It performs flawlessly
in conjunction with EXP, and is also a great choice for Web publishing.”
