Why am I getting the message "This Windows system is missing some critical information required to install EXP"?

Note: Instead of installing EXP 6.0 from the USB flash drive, please download and install EXP 6.2.

Shipments of EXP 6.0 prior to July 13, 2009 do not install on 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows. The EXP 6.0 setup program displays the following message: "This Windows system is missing some critical information required to install EXP." Symbol Dynamics has developed a tiny program called Prep64.exe that fixes the problem.

Click here to download the file Prep64.exe to your computer.
Run the program Prep64.exe. This file is digitally signed by Symbol Dynamics LLC and is safe to run.
After Prep64.exe completes, install EXP 6.0.

You should never need the program Prep64.exe again, even if you uninstall and reinstall EXP 6.0 on the same computer. The fix is permanent for the current installation of Windows.
